What does the

MINUSPLUS® METHOD

Consist Of ?

At minusplus we believe that good styling needs more than just sophisticated technique. Our stylists don’t just focus on the customer’s hair, they grasp the person as a whole. The world we live in is just as fast-paced as it is colorful. There is no formula for the perfect haircut because there is no such thing as the perfect haircut. Our approach is to look closely, sense and appreciate who is taking seat in front of you – without applying a cookie-cutter approach. What does the trick is being confident in using your set of skills the best possible way. Awareness and self-confidence together with technical knowledg e lead to hair that feels like the true you at a moment’s notice. This is what sets apart a good stylist from an excellent one.

This is why we take great pride in training our staff at minusplus academy

What colour are the eyes of the customer, does she wear make-up? How does the customer appear, what does her manner of speaking betray? What does the style or the way someone presents himself in conversation say? At the minusplus school, we require our stylists to perceive customers as a whole. We train the eye for details. We can only achieve this form of perception if we approach our students with a great deal of attention, both during their training and later in their everyday work.

The technique has to fit, that is not negotiable for stylists. However, self-confidence in using one’s own potential must not only be achieved through years of experience. While conventional training is based on the “show, imitate, practice-do-do” scheme, our training is based on a sense of achievement right from the start. Our students assume responsibility at an early stage. This is how the love of the profession is born. We leave room for creativity and joy at work.

In detail, the minusplus training consists of three parts

• The basic part, also called the emotional part by us,
• The physical part and finally
• The technical part.

Basic part:

The basic part is about the own learning process. The pupil himself/herself is in the centre, his/her self-perception is trained. This helps to accept feedback more effectively during the training. Before any cutting technique is taught at all, the stylists are provided with tools and material so that they can first experiment freely and informally.

technical part:

In the technical part, they benefit from this and success is achieved more quickly than in the conventional way.

physical part:

In the physical part, the focus is on the own body. Because the stylist’s tool is not only the scissors, but his or her own body. We get inspiration from techniques and methods that at first glance seem far away from the salon. The Feldenkrais teaching is a body teaching method that deals with awareness through movement. For every right-handed person, the natural one-handedness has an effect on the balance of a haircut. In order to compensate for this and to learn to use one’s own movements economically, we incorporate elements of the Feldenkrais Method into our training.

moreover

The technical part completes the minusplus training. But here too we are breaking new ground. Our concept is based on three pillars: the minus -, the equal sign = and the plus +. Techniques of reduction to lose weight in haircuts, balancing techniques to work out outer lines and plus techniques to build up weight in the form. Other schools practice different haircuts on different heads. We practice different cuts on the same model. This way our stylists learn to build their haircuts modularly.
